ColoRODan's 40th Annual Rod Festival.
On the morning of July 25th 2010, the ColoRODans celebrated their 40th Annual Rod Festival when over 400 cars rolled into Roosevelt Park in Longmont Colorado. This event really started on Friday night when the City threw a free street concert on Fourth and Main with the band Pure Prairie League.
Saturday followed with a Poker Run around town, and that night it was cruising downtown on Main -- just like in the 60’s! The cruising was a big hit with not only the participants but the locals as well. In fact, clubs came up from Denver and the surrounding areas just to join in. Hundreds of cars cruised up and down Main Street all night without issues, insuring fun for all.
The tradition continues...
Sunday morning the cars started to arrive early for the Show-and-Shine at our new venue in Roosevelt Park. There was plenty of room on the grass to park all the nice street rods, street machines, muscle cars and pure stock gems as well. Underneath the Pavilion, flanked by vendors on both sides, a number of special historical hot rods and race cars were on display -- including the first dragster to go over 200 mph in Colorado.
Our special guest, Norm Grabowski, Father of the T and the famed “Kookie Car” was in attendance. He signed autographs and also brought his “Fish” car for display in all its unique glory. In addition, our local pin stripping artist, Mart Ford, gave tips and put on a heck of a demo of “how to do it” on some of the entrants’ cars that were lucky enough to receive the master’s touch.
Pat Shaw and his team of NSRA safety techs did another outstanding job with cars that volunteered to go through the very thorough vehicle inspections. The ColoRODans were fortunate to have five original members of the club in attendance. They graciously presented a number of trophies and seemed to have a lot of fun. A total of 20 awards were given out.
This year the Club was thrilled to have a great turn out of both spectators and a large number of quality cars from the participants. The RodFest was made much easier for the club due to the support from our sponsors, the assistance from the City and all of our friends who came together to make this great event happen.
